Ruby Collins did not celebrate her birthday the way any other 12-year-old would. Instead of getting gifts this year, she would be the one to give. Collins, of Guiderland, NY, encouraged friends and family members to make a donation to Freedom Guide Dogs as an alternative to buying a gift for her birthday on June 23. Collins said she chose Freedom because of early memories she had of her adult friend, Maura, who was blind and used a guide dog. "She always seemed so happy with a buddy at her side..." said Collins. She saw what a difference having independence made for Maura. "Even at my young age, I have seen what a guide dog can do for someone."
A total of $550 was donated to Freedom Guide Dogs on behalf of Ruby Collins. Thanks again, Ruby!!!
